Fatal Car Accident In San Bernardino
A woman who died October 27, 2009 in a San Bernardino car accident has been identified as 74-year-old Barbara Lowe of Big Bear City, the San Bernardino Sun reports. The single car accident occurred on Highway 38 in Big Bear when a 1999 Ford Explorer in which Lowe was a passenger, left the roadway and struck a tree. Lowe and the unidentified driver of the SUV were taken to an area hospital. Lowe died a few hours after the collision. The condition of the driver remains unknown, California Highway Patrol officials said.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of Barbara Lowe, the victim of this horrific accident. I also hope the injured driver has not suffered any life threatening injuries and wish him a complete recovery. I offer my deepest condolences to everyone who knew and loved Lowe.
Car Accident In San Bernardino
Based on the most recent traffic accident data from California Highway Patrol, there were 40 injuries involving Big Bear Lake car accidents. Also, in 2007, there have been 308 fatalities and 9,920 injuries due to all car accidents in San Bernardino County.
We know from this report that the driver of the Explorer somehow lost control of the vehicle and ended up slamming into the tree by the highway, causing the death of this elderly passenger. The news report however does not have any information on what exactly caused the driver to veer off the roadway. There are always a number of factors in these types of single vehicle crashes. If I were a family member of the victims here, I'd be very interested to know why this collision happened and if it was the result of negligence on someone's part.
Ford SUVs, especially the Explorer model, has one of the worst track records for safety and have also been involved in a number of recalls. The auto products liability attorneys at BISNAR | CHASE have handled a number of cases involving the Ford Explorer where we have won compensation for our clients for their serious injuries and losses caused by its defective design. This SUV has a high center of gravity, which makes it unstable even at relatively low speeds. Further, we have seen that the weak roof in Ford SUVs often becomes a factor in contributing to the injuries or even death of the occupants, rather than protecting them.
