Three people were injured, one critically, in a Los Angeles car accident the morning of July 30, 2010. According to a news report in The Santa Clarita Signal, the injury collision occurred on the northbound side of the 5 Freeway near the Valencia Boulevard exit. A small car was struck and trapped between two semi-trucks. It is not clear what caused this accident. The full extent of the injuries suffered by the victims is not yet known.

I truly hope none of these victims sustained catastrophic injuries in this truck accident. I wish them the very best for a quick and complete recovery. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

There were 11 fatalities and 552 injuries involving car accidents in Santa Clarita, according to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In Los Angeles County as a whole, 667 people died and 52,229 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.

What Caused this Accident

Based on this news report, it is not entirely clear how or why this truck accident occurred. It appears, however, that the passenger vehicle was sandwiched between the two big rigs. Did one of the large trucks rear-end the passenger car, pushing it into the other semi-truck? If that was the case, what caused the rear-end collision? Was the truck driver impaired or inattentive? Was the truck driver distracted? What was the speed at which the big rig was traveling? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine exactly what occurred here and why.

It would be in the best interests of victims in such accidents to seek the counsel of an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will advise them about their legal rights and options. If the truck driver is determined to have been at-fault, both, the driver and his or her employer could be held liable for the victims' injuries. Injured victims in such cases can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages.

What are some precautions you take while driving alongside big rigs on the freeway?
