An Orange County car accident led to one person being hospitalized with injuries. The Orange County Register reports that the accident occurred on December 10, 2009 after two cars crashed at the intersection of Sunny Ridge Drive and Tiffany Place. The two-car collision involved a Mitsubishi Lancer and a Nissan Xterra. Officials said the Xterra rolled over trapping occupants in the wreckage. Fire officials then, had to extricate them, and one person was transported to a local hospital with injuries. It is not clear whether that individual was seriously hurt.
It is indeed fortunate that this SUV rollover accident did not cause any fatalities. I wish the injured victim the best for a speedy and full recovery. I hope that this victim's injuries were not major.
Orange County Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Traffic Accident statistics, there were five fatalities and 739 injuries involving car accidents in Fullerton, California. In Orange County as a whole, 178 deaths and 14,185 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in 2007. Federal transportation safety officials say SUV rollover accidents have caused thousands of fatalities in the United States. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates rollover accidents, on an average, cause 10,000 fatalities every year in the United States.
In this particular case, I trust officials are looking into how or why the collision occurred. There are still several questions that have not been answered. Did one of the drivers run a red light? Did one of the drivers fail to yield right-of-way at the intersection? If one of the drivers violated traffic laws, then he or she could be held responsible for injuries caused to the other victims.
Did Vehicle Defects Play a Part?
I would also be curious to see whether the injuries were caused by any auto product defects – specifically rollover or roof crush. A number of these rollover accidents result in catastrophic injuries or fatalities because the defectively designed and poorly constructed roofs of these vehicles could cave in crushing the occupants and causing traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries or even paralysis.
If vehicle defects are suspected, the victims of this accident would be well-advised to preserve the vehicle in its current condition so it can be examined for malfunctions and defects. An experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer, who has successfully handled auto product defect cases, can help victims and their families better understand their legal rights and options in such cases.
