Vincent Giuliano, 21, and Jake Joseph Blood, 27, were both killed in a Riverside car accident involving a truck rollover. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the fatal crash occurred along El Sobrante Road, near Palm Drive, in Lake Mathews, the night of September 17, 2011. Blood was thrown from the vehicle as it overturned . Both he and Giuliano were passengers in the truck. An investigation is ongoing.
My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Vincent Giuliano and Jake Joseph Blood following this tragic car accident. My thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.
Riverside Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 79 people were killed and 2,249 were injured in car accidents in the unincorporated areas of Riverside County. During that same year, there were 203 fatalities and 7,974 injuries reported involving Riverside County car accidents.
What Caused This Tragic Car Accident?
Based on this news report, it is unclear as to what caused this fatal crash. The report does not mention if any other vehicles were involved. Both of the deceased victims were listed as passengers. It is unclear why the driver lost control of the truck. Was the driver violating California Vehicle Code Section 22350 by speeding? Did a dangerous roadway condition on the roadway contribute to the crash? Were the victims wearing seatbelts or were they ejected as the result of a defective seatbelt ? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.
Liability Issues
The family of a victim killed in a car accident may seek financial compensation for their loss by filing a wrongful death claim. At-fault parties may be held liable for damages including hospital bills, funeral expenses, lost future wages, and loss of companionship. If the driver of the truck caused this accident due to negligence or wrongdoing, he or she could be held liable for the victims' wrongful death. If an auto defect caused the fatal injuries, the auto maker or manufacturer of the defective product can also be held liable. Victims' families would be well-advised to contact an experienced Riverside personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and make sure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.
