Sandy • 04 March 2010 • Car Accident

A female driver sustained injuries in an Orange County car accident after the vehicle which she was driving collided with a trash truck at a Garden Grove intersection the morning of March 2, 2010. The Orange County Register reports that this accident happened when a Nissan Altima crashed into a Disposal Service truck at the intersection of Haster Street and Lampson Avenue. The woman who was driving the Altima was taken to an area hospital with injuries, but the extent of her injuries is not known. A 1-year-old child in the Nissan was thankfully not injured.

My heart goes out to the woman and the child who were involved in this accident. I hope and pray that the injured victim makes a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep her in your prayers.

There were 12 fatalities and 717 injuries involving car accidents in Garden Grove, according to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). Countywide, 152 people died and 13,414 were injured as a result of car accidents in 2008.

Car Accident Causes

In this particular case, it is not clear what caused the street intersection accident. There are several questions here. Did one of the drivers fail to yield right-of-way at the intersection? Did one of the drivers run a red light? Was there a dangerous condition on this roadway, which may have caused or contributed to this accident? I trust the results of the official investigation will provide answers that will help the injured victim and her family.

If the driver of the garbage truck is determined to have been at fault, then he and his employer, the disposal company could be held liable for the woman's injuries. If an accident is caused due to a dangerous intersection, then, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could be held liable. Any such claim against a governmental agency in California must be properly filed within 180 days of the accident or injuries. An experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer will be able to advise victims about their legal rights and options and help them obtain fair compensation for their injuries, damages and losses.
