Robert Switt, 62, was injured in a car accident after his motorcycle collided with another vehicle that was attempting a turn. According to a news report in the Union Democrat, the injury crash occurred on Highway 49 near Jack Page Road in Sonora, the morning of October 17, 2011. CHP officials say that traffic had slowed for a vehicle that was making a right turn. Switt lost control of his Harley Davidson motorcycle while attempting to adjust to the slowed traffic. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries when the motorcycle overturned and landed on his leg.
My thoughts and prayers are with Robert Switt following this Tuolumne County accident. I wish him the best for a complete and speedy recovery.
Motorcycle Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), eight people were injured in Sonora motorcycle accidents. During that same year, there were two fatalities and 52 injuries as a result of motorcycle accidents in Tuolumne County.
What Caused This Motorcycle Crash?
Based on this news report, it is unclear as to what caused this motorcycle accident. Did the vehicles in front of the victim decelerate at an unsafe rate? Why was the victim unable to control the motorcycle while braking? Did an auto defect or mechanical malfunction play a part in this accident? I trust officials are looking into whether any of the motorists were inattentive, distracted, speeding or intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Liability Issues
If any of the drivers in this case is determined to have been at fault, he or she may be held liable for the injuries and damages caused here. Injured victims in such cases can seek financial compensation for losses such as medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. If an auto defect in the Harley Davidson motorcycle contributed to this crash, the motorcycle manufacturer may be held accountable. Car accident victims would be well advised to contact an experienced California personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to injured victims and their families.
