Four Car Crash in Oregon Causes Critical Injuries

Sandy • 02 June 2010 • Car Accident, Catastrophic Injury, Personal Injury

A 20-year-old man was critically injured in an Oregon car accident after the vehicle in which he was a passenger was struck head-on by an SUV. According to a news report in The Oregonian, the four-vehicle crash occurred the afternoon of May 31, 2010 at the intersection of Cornell and 185th avenues in Hillsboro, Oregon. A 56-year-old man who was driving a Kia SUV west on Cornell entered the eastbound lanes and hit three cars – a Honda Civic, a Chevy Lumina and a Pontiac Grand Prix.

Car Accident Results in Major Injuries

The driver of the Kia was uninjured. But a 20-year-old man, who was a passenger in the Lumina, was airlifted to an area hospital with critical injuries. Three others were also transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. The driver of the Kia apparently told officials that he may have suffered a medical problem in the crash and did not recall what occurred.

My heart goes out to this seriously injured passenger as well as the other injured victims. I truly hope the victims have not sustained any catastrophic injuries. I wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. They will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Causes and Liability Issues

Based on this news report, it is not clear what caused the driver of the Kia SUV to cross over into opposing lanes of traffic. Did he really black out from some medical condition? Was he under the influence of alcohol? Was he distracted by something in the vehicle? Was he speeding at the intersection or driving recklessly? I trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

If the driver of the Kia is determined to have been at fault, then he could be held liable for the accident and resulting injuries. In such cases, injured victims could claim compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of earnings, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering, and even the cost of long-term care.

Victims would be well-advised to seek the counsel of an experienced Oregon personal injury lawyer, who will stay on top of the official investigation and make sure that the negligent parties are held liable. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will also advise victims about how their own car insurance policy will apply to an accident where the at-fault motorist is uninsured or underinsured.
