Garden Grove Car Accident Results in Serious Injuries

Sandy • 21 June 2010 • Car Accident, Personal Injury, vehicle defect

A man sustained serious injuries in a Garden Grove car accident on the westbound 22 Freeway near Haster Street the morning of June 18, 2010. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the crash occurred when a Toyota Camry slammed into a freeway sound wall. California Highway Patrol officials said they received reports that the Toyota's driver was changing lanes when he noticed another vehicle in the same lane. Officials said it is possible another car may have cut off the Camry or hit him. But, authorities say, so far they have not seen any evidence of that.

My heart goes out to this man who was seriously injured. I hope he did not suffer any catastrophic injuries in this collision. I wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Car Accident Statistics

According to CHP's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 12 fatalities and 717 injuries as a result of car accidents in Garden Grove. In Orange County as a whole, 152 deaths and 13,414 injuries were reported due to car accidents in 2008.

What Caused the Accident?

Based on this news report, there has been no conclusive evidence yet of what occurred here or caused the car accident. Was there a vehicle defect or malfunction in the Camry? Was there another driver involved? For example, was the Camry run off the roadway by another vehicle? Did another driver cut into his lane? What evidence did officials look at in terms of ruling out that possibility? If I were a family member of the injured victim in this case, I would want to find out exactly what occurred here.

Liability Issues

If another driver was in fact involved and left the scene, he or she could be charged with felony hit-and-run for leaving the scene of an accident. If another driver was at fault and determined to have been negligent, he or she could also be held civilly liable for the victim's injuries and damages. In such cases, injured victims can claim compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of earnings, cost of hospitalization, pain and suffering, and other damages.

Victims would be well-advised to contact an experienced Garden Grove personal injury lawyer, who will examine all aspects of the accident and make sure that the negligent parties are held accountable for their actions. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will also be able to advise victims about how their car insurance policy might apply to a hit-and-run collision or if the at-fault motorist is uninsured or underinsured.
