Los Angeles Bus Accident Injures One
One person was injured in a Los Angeles bus accident, after the driver lost control on a wet roadway. According to an Associated Press news report the bus was carrying members of the San Dimas High School Band the night of December 12, 2009, when it struck a signal light in Glendora. One person was injured, but it is not clear if that was a student. California Highway Patrol officials say the accident occurred at the intersection of Barranca Avenue and State Route 66, as the band was heading home after a football game. The bus driver was making a turn on to east Route 66 from south on Barranca, when she lost control of the bus on the slick roadway.
Weather a Factor in Bus Crash
I'm extremely relieved that this accident did not prove catastrophic or fatal for any one in the bus or on the roadway. I hope that the injured victim in this case has a quick and complete recovery.
Based on this news report, it is clear that the driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the signal light and that the weather was a possible factor. However, the question arises as to whether the driver was traveling too fast or taking the turn too fast. Was the bus driver traveling at an unsafe speed given the rainy weather? If that was the case, the bus company could be held liable for any injuries caused.
Liability Issues in Bus Accidents
Bus companies – whether they are public or private carriers – owe their passengers the "utmost duty of care." What this means is that bus companies are responsible for what happens to their passengers who depend on the bus driver to reach their destination safely.
Injured passengers in such cases will be well advised to retain the services of a reputed Los Angeles personal injury lawyer to help determine the exact cause of this bus accident and hold the negligent parties responsible. A skilled auto accident attorney will also be able to determine whether another vehicle or a dangerous roadway condition caused the accident. Remember that there is a 180-day statute of limitation to file a claim against any governmental agency in the state of California.
