Two people were hospitalized with injuries after a Los Angeles car accident the morning of January 13, 2010, the Daily Breeze reports. The injury crash occurred on Torrance Boulevard near Cabrillo Avenue, in Torrance, when a pickup truck traveling east crossed the center line and slammed head-on into a flatbed truck carrying a load of lumber. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. The other driver was also taken to the hospital, but the extent of his injuries is not known. Torrance police officials are looking into whether alcohol or drugs played a part in this car accident.

I hope neither one of the drivers sustained any major or catastrophic injury in this accident. I wish them both the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep them in your prayers.

Los Angeles Car Accidents

According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were four fatalities and 499 injuries involving car accidents in Torrance, California. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 712 fatalities and 56,475 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents during the same year.

Were Drugs or Alcohol Involved?

If the details in this news report are accurate, it seems that the driver of the pickup truck was at fault for this head-on collision. Officials say that it was the driver of the pickup truck who crossed the center line and caused the head-on crash. If this driver is found to have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs then, he could be looking at serious criminal charges as well.

Driving under the influence is a serious crime in California. It is against the law to drive with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 percent or higher. California Vehicle Code Section 23152 (a) states: "It is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle."

Claim for Compensation

Anyone who has suffered injuries in a car accident as a result of a drunk or negligent driver would be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all facets of the case and ensure that they are fairly compensated for their injuries and losses. Victims of such accidents can seek compensation to cover medical costs, lost earnings, surgery expenses, cost of physical therapy and other related damages.
