Police in Los Angeles are looking for a hit-and-run driver who they say struck and killed a woman in Koreatown the night of May 17, 2010. According to an ABC News report, the 61-year-old woman was struck as she was crossing the intersection at Olympic Boulevard and Manhattan Place. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver did not stop and was last seen going north on St. Andrews Place. Eyewitnesses also told police that the suspect vehicle was a white sedan. If you have any information about this incident, please call LAPD at 213-382-9102 or visit our website at www.hitandrunreward.com.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of this woman's family for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Pedestrian Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 104 fatalities and 2,716 injuries involving pedestrian accidents in Los Angeles. Countywide, 214 people died and 4,985 were injured as a result of pedestrian accidents during the same year.
Leaving the Scene of the Crash
I truly hope this hit-and-run driver will soon be apprehended and brought to justice. Leaving the scene of an accident is a serious crime under California law. California Vehicle Code 20001 (a) states: "The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident."
Claim for Compensation
In this particular case, it also appears, based on the details of the news report that the car accident victim was legally crossing at an intersection. I trust officials are working on confirming this and also, on establishing who had the right-of-way here. Regardless of whose fault the accident was, the driver of the vehicle was required to stop at the scene of the collision, exchange information and obtain help for the injured victim.
In such cases, families of deceased victims would be well-advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and make sure that that their legal rights and best interests are protected. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will also be able to inform them about how their car insurance policy applies to a hit-and-run crash or to an incident where the at-fault driver is uninsured or underinsured.
Have you ever been in a hit-and-run collision? What was your experience? We would like to hear from you.

To evaluate the strength of your personal injury case, you must concentrate on three “building block” factors. These would be your facts, quality of evidence, and your personal injury lawyer. Let us start with facts. When dealing with facts, what is important is to identify who caused the damages and what are the damages. In order for a plaintiff to file a personal injury claim, there should be another party who damaged something that of the plaintiff.
Evidence on the other hand, would simply be enough proof that the other party did all of those damages. This would cover everything from witnesses, documents, physical evidences, and police reports. This factor may be the turning point in front of the judge in court, or when presenting to the insurance companies. This would give your personal injury case the backing that it needs to get the results you need.
