A 42-year-old man suffered major injuries in a San Diego car accident after his motorcycle collided with a utility trailer being pulled by a truck. According to a 10News report, the injury motorcycle accident occurred the afternoon of February 4, 2012 on Route 76 near Mile Marker 44. California Highway Patrol officials say, the man was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle at an unknown speed on westbound Route 76 near Valley Center Road. The motorcyclist suddenly veered out of control into the eastbound lane and entered the path of a Dodge Durango pulling a utility trailer. The truck’s driver, a 56-year-old man, tried to avoid the motorcyclist. But the bike collided with the trailer. The motorcyclist’s left leg was severed near the hip. The victim was airlifted to an area hospital. An investigation is ongoing.
My thoughts and prayers are with the motorcyclist, who has apparently sustained catastrophic injuries in this motorcycle accident. I wish him the very best for a speedy recovery.
Motorcycle Accident Statistics
According to CHP’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were nine fatalities and 291 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in the city of San Diego. In San Diego County as a whole, 39 people died and 989 were injured as a result of motorcycle accidents, during the same year.
What Caused This Crash?
Based on this news report, it is unclear as to what caused the motorcyclist to lose control of his Harley-Davidson and swerve into opposing lanes of traffic. There are several unanswered questions here. Did a vehicle defect in the motorcycle cause it to go out of control? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway? Was the motorcyclist attempting to avoid debris on the roadway? Were other vehicles involved? For example, was the motorcyclist cut off or clipped by another vehicle? I trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.
Compensation for Injured Victims
In such cases injured victims would be well advised to preserve the vehicle in its current condition unaltered so an expert can examine it thoroughly for defects, malfunctions and other evidence. Injured victims would also be well advised to contact an experienced San Diego personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to motorcycle accident victims and their families.
