Motorcyclist Suffers Fatal Injuries in Ventura Car Accident
A motorcyclist, who was killed in a Ventura car accident after his motorcycle struck another vehicle has been identified as 50-year-old Jeffrey Decker. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, the coroner determined Decker's cause of death as head injuries. The fatal motorcycle accident happened the night of October 23, 2009. Decker was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle on Alamo Street in Simi Valley when an SUV that was heading north on Cimmaron Avenue struck him, Simi Valley police officials said. Decker was wearing a helmet, but that did not prevent his head injuries. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The driver of the SUV was uninjured.
My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Jeffrey Decker. Their loss is tragic and heartbreaking. Decker, according to family members, was a loving, helpful man who was fond of riding his motorcycle and working with computers. I offer my deepest sympathies to his family members. Please keep them in your prayers.
There were 13 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in Simi Valley, according to California Highway Patrol's 2007 traffic accident statistics. In Ventura County, five deaths and 210 injuries involving motorcycle accidents were reported during the same period. Also, countywide, car accidents claimed 71 lives and caused 3,993 injuries in 2007.
In any such accident, it is important to determine who caused the accident and subsequently, who was at fault. In an accident that occurs at an intersection, it is important to investigate who had the right-of-way. According to this news report, the motorist has not been suspected of any criminal conduct or wrongdoing. However, it is important for Decker's family members to know what exactly caused this fatal collision and whether someone's negligence played a part.
It would be in the best interest of the victim's family to seek the counsel of an experienced California personal injury lawyer who will advise them about their legal rights and options. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer should also determine whether a dangerous condition at that Simi Valley intersection caused or contributed to this accident. If that was the case the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could be held liable. According to California Government Code, any claim against a California governmental entity must be filed within six months of the accident or injury.
