An 82-year-old woman who died after sustaining critical injuries in an Orange County car accident has been identified as Roberta Coder. The accident, according to The Orange County Register, occurred the afternoon of November 30, 2009 after the car in which Coder was a passenger was struck by another at the intersection of Newport Boulevard and Mesa Drive.
Coder as well as two others – 31-year-old Albert Calleros and 41-year-old Doris Striffler – were taken to the hospital. Striffler sustained a broken hip while Calleros complained of pain. Officials are saying that Coder's death was from natural causes and not because of the critical injuries she sustained in this car accident. Car Accident Causes and Liability Issues
It is not clear based on this report how or why this street intersection collision occurred. There are many questions here and not too many answers. The collision occurred between a Chevrolet Trailblazer and a Ford Focus. Did one of the drivers fail to yield right-of-way to the other? Did one of the drivers run a red light? Both are serious traffic violations.
There are various California Vehicle Code sections that are part of what we commonly refer to as "rules of the road." These code sections address motorists' behavior at intersections, especially those controlled by traffic signals. California Vehicle Code Section 21453 (a) states: "A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown."
If a victim has been injured or killed as a result of someone else's negligence, then that victim or their family could seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages or even wrongful death. A reputed Orange County personal injury lawyer will be able to analyze all the facts of the case and make sure victims' rights are protected and their best interests are served.
