San Diego SUV Rollover Crash Leaves One Dead
A San Diego car accident resulted in the death of a 49-year-old man the afternoon of February 21, 2010. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the accident occurred on State Route 67 when the 1994 Jeep Cherokee veered off the roadway. When the driver tried to overcorrect, the SUV rolled over. California Highway Patrol officials said that despite having his seatbelt on, the man was killed as the Jeep's roof caved in causing massive head injuries to the victim.
My heart goes out to the family of this deceased victim. It is indeed a devastating loss for everyone who knew and loved this man. This victim and his family will be in my prayers.
SUV Rollover Accidents
Rollover accidents can be devastating. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that approximately 25 percent of all traffic accident fatalities involve rollover accidents. SUVs are particularly prone to rollover accidents because of their higher center of gravity and smaller track width.
In addition, a number of SUVs have roof crush issues. In many SUV models, when the vehicle rolls over, the roof that is flimsily made, caves in and crushes the vehicle occupants causing major head or spinal cord injuries. Many of these violent rollover crashes have resulted in catastrophic injuries, which cause lifelong disabilities such as paralysis. The NHTSA is yet to come up with a new rule to modify the roof strength requirements for vehicles. The federal auto safety agency has not updated this safety standard in more than three decades.
Defective Autos
In such cases, the victim's family would be well-advised to seek the legal counsel of a reputed San Diego personal injury lawyer, who has an excellent track record of successfully handling auto products liability cases against major auto makers. Also, in defective auto cases, the vehicle must be preserved in its current condition, in tact, so it can be carefully examined for vehicle defects, mechanical malfunctions and other evidence.
