A 17-year-old boy sustained life-threatening injuries in a Ventura car accident after he lost control of the pickup truck he was driving. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, the teenager was traveling west on Royal Avenue near Darrah Avenue the morning of August 5, 2010 when the crash occurred. He was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated and transported to a local hospital. He is said to be in critical condition. Officials are still looking into what caused this accident.
My heart goes out to this young driver and his family for what they are going through at this time. I wish him the very best for a quick and complete recovery. He and his family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Car Accidents
According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were six deaths and 430 injuries involving car accidents in Simi Valley. In Ventura County as a whole, 63 people died and 3,785 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.
What Caused this Crash
Based on this news report, it is not clear what caused this major injury accident. There are several unanswered question here. Was this accident the result of driver error? Did speed, alcohol or drugs play a part? Was the driver fatigued or sleepy at the time? Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction, which may have caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway? Was another vehicle involved in the crash? For example, was the teen's pickup truck run off the roadway by another driver or vehicle? I trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine how or why this crash occurred.
Liability Issues
If an auto product defect is determined to have led to this crash, then, the auto maker or manufacturer of the defective product can be held liable. In such cases, injured victims can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and even cost of long-term care if the accident resulted in catastrophic injuries. Injured victims would be well-advised to contact a reputed Ventura personal injury lawyer who has successfully handled auto product liability cases. In such cases, it is always a good idea to preserve the vehicle in question so it can be thoroughly examined by an expert for auto product defects, design defects, malfunctions and other evidence.
