Six Students Injured in Anaheim School Bus Crash
Six students were injured in an Anaheim car accident after their school bus collided with another vehicle at a city intersection. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the crash occurred the afternoon of June 3, 2010 at the intersection of Disneyland Drive and Ball Road. Anaheim fire officials say there were 63 fourth and fifth grade students and two adults inside the school bus at the time of the collision. The students were all from Francis Scott Key Elementary School in Anaheim. The six injured students were transported to a local hospital.
I hope the six children who were hurt in this crash did not suffer major injuries. I wish them all the very best for a quick and full recovery. It is also fortunate that no one else was injured in this school bus crash. These injured children will be in my prayers.
School Bus Accidents
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that between 1996 and 2006, 96 school bus accidents occurred in the United States in which at least one occupant died. More than 50 percent of those crashes involved another vehicle. In the 41 single-vehicle crashes, 46 occupants, 14 drivers and 32 passengers died. In 53 percent of all crashes involving fatalities to occupants of school bus, the principal point of impact was the front of the vehicle.
Laws and Liability Issues
In this particular case, it is not clear who was at fault. Although the incident involved another vehicle, we do not know who had right-of-way at the intersection. California law requires motorists to yield right-of-way to oncoming vehicles. According to California Vehicle Code section 21800 (a): "The driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from a different highway."
Victims and their families in such cases would be well-advised to contact an experienced Anaheim personal injury lawyer, who will examine all facets of the accident and make sure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive claim evaluation to injured victims and their families.
