Three girls ages 8 and 6, and 11, were injured in a Ventura car accident involving a hit-and-run driver, the night of February 4, 2012. According to a news report in The Ventura County Star, the hit-and-run accident occurred near Santa Monica Drive and Victoria Avenue in Oxnard. Police say 50-year-old Joan Aronson was walking with her two daughter and one other girl when a car heading north jumped a curb and struck the three girls. Officials say all three girls suffered serious injuries and were transported to an area hospital for treatment. The driver did not stop after the collision, and continued in the same direction.

Officials are asking for the public’s help in tracking down the hit-and-run driver. The vehicle has been described as a newer silver or gray Japanese-make vehicle with tinted windows and a potentially damaged bumper. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to call the Ventura office of the California Highway Patrol at 805-477-4100.

My heart goes out to the three girls injured in this terrible hit-and-run car accident. I wish them all the very best for a complete and speedy recovery. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Pedestrian Accident Statistics

According to CHP's 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), two people were killed and 68 were injured in Oxnard pedestrian accidents. During that same year, Ventura County pedestrian accidents claimed 10 lives and injured 196 people.

Hit-and-Run Accidents

Based on this news report, the driver not only jumped the curb and struck these three young girls, but he or she also drove away leaving the children seriously injured and lying on the roadway. Despicable! Fleeing the site of an injury collision is inhumane and irresponsible, not to mention, illegal. California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) states: "The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident."

Injured hit-and-run accident victims or their families would be well advised to contact an experienced Ventura personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. A skilled car accident attorney will better inform families in such cases about how their own auto insurance policy applies to an incident where the suspect is not found, or, in a crash where the at-fault motorist is uninsured or underinsured.
