Eve Reeves, 53, sustained serious injuries in a Ventura car accident the afternoon of February 4, 2010. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, Reeves was traveling west on Highway 126 near Palm Avenue, in Santa Paula, when she lost control of her vehicle, went off the roadway and rolled down an embankment. California Highway Patrol officials said Reeves was taken to a local hospital. She sustained head and facial injuries. Authorities are investigating the cause of this major injury crash.
I sympathize with Reeves and her family for the serious injuries she has suffered in this car crash. I hope her head injuries are not catastrophic and that she recovers quickly and completely. This injured victim and her family will be in my prayers.
Car Accident Statistics
There were nine fatalities and 462 injuries involving car accidents in Santa Paula in 2007, according to CHP's traffic accident statistics. In Ventura County as a whole, 71 people died and 3,993 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents during the same year.
Car Accident Causes
This news article states that officials are still looking into what caused Reeves to lose control of her vehicle. There are a number of questions here. Was Reeves distracted or fatigued at the time? Was there an auto product defect or a mechanical malfunction in her car that caused her to lose control of it? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway, which caused the accident? Was another vehicle involved in this accident? Was Reeves run off the road by another motorist? These are important questions to ask in any solo vehicle crash and hopefully, the answers to some of these questions will help determine who or what caused this accident.
How an Experienced Injury Lawyer Can Help
In such cases, victims or their families would be well-advised to consult with an experienced California personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all facets of the car accident and determine whether there was any negligence or wrongdoing. If an auto product defect caused the accident, the victim could seek compensation from the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective product. If a dangerous roadway was a factor, then the governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could be held liable as well. If another driver was involved in this particular crash, then he or she could be held responsible for Reeves' injuries. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer can also advise victims about how their car insurance policy applies in a case that involves a hit-and-run driver or a driver who is uninsured or underinsured.
