A car accident in San Bernardino, which officials say, involved a suspected drunk driver, injured at least one person. The Press Enterprise reports that the injury chain-reaction crash occurred on the 10 Freeway in Yucaipa the night of April 6, 2011. California Highway Patrol officials say the accident involved four or five vehicles and was triggered by the driver of a white Honda who made an unsafe lane change. The injured victim was taken to a local hospital. One person was booked on suspicion of DUI.
My heart goes out to the injured victim of this accident. I sincerely hope no one else was injured. I pray for the victim's swift and full recovery.
Drunk Driving Statistics

Laws and Liability Issues
It is not clear from this report whether it was the suspected drunk driver who made the unsafe lane change and caused the pileup. According to California Vehicle Code Section 23152 (a): "It is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle."
Also, California Vehicle Code Section 21658 (a) states that whenever a roadway has been divided into two or more clearly marked lanes for traffic in one direction the vehicle "shall be driven as nearly as practical entirely within a single lane and shall not be moved from the lane until such movement can be made with reasonable safety."
