Michigan Personal Injury Lawyers Offer Tips To Prevent Boat Accident Injuries

Michigan personal injury lawyers often pursue cases involving boating injuries and injuries from other water sports, like jet ski accidents and water skiing accidents. The injuries from these cases are often catastrophic, such as traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and even cases involving wrongful death.

A National Transportation Safety Board report demonstrates the substantial risks of boating accident deaths. In 2007, over 7,100 boaters died and most of these were on small personal boats. The majority of these deaths were due to drowning and boat operator negligence. In fact, more than 90% of drowning accident victims would have lived had they been wearing a life jacket. More

Ambulance Chasers Give Personal Injury Lawyers a Bad Name

One of the biggest hurdles a personal injury lawyer will face is overcoming the social stigmas that come with their profession. The public has a very definitive opinion on what personal injury attorneys are seeking and the basic consensus is that they are all ambulance chasers that are motivated by greed--this is a fallacy. The fact of the matter is that the few bad apples known as ambulance chasers have made a mockery out of the entire profession. For Camden personal injury attorneys, there is no greater feat than trying to dispel the misconceptions created by ambulance chasers and the insurance industry.

Just recently New Jersey News Room (NJNR) reported on what they believe is the reason that New Jersey car insurance premiums are so high. They cited a conspiracy between doctors and personal injury lawyers that aims to trick accident victims into receiving treatment that they don’t need and into lawsuits that they do not want to pursue. While not denying that some ambulance chasers will go to extreme lengths to obtain a client, at the end of the day they cannot force a victim into treatment and a claim.

NJNR spoke with Deanna Lykins, who is the president of the Insurance Council of New Jersey, and she further asserted that there are serious problems with personal injury attorneys misleading and deceiving accident victims. Her evidence was a case recently heard in Bergen County in which three chiropractors were found guilty of falsifying medical records, fraudulent health care claims, and violating the NJ Insurance Fraud Act. It was also stated that in this case the accident victim who was treated by these doctors was also led across the hall to a lawyer that he did not want to see. More

Drug May Speed Recovery from Traumatic Brain Injury

A study was recently completed that provides hope for faster recoveries for victims of traumatic brain injury (TBI). The study was of a drug called amantadine hydrochloride, which is typically used to treat both the flu and Parkinson’s disease. This drug was already being prescribed to TBI patients off-label—which means being prescribed for something other than what it is intended to treat—but now this study validates its use in these situations.

The study, which was included in the March 1, 2012 issue of The New England Journal of Medicine, involved 184 patients from three different countries and they were divided into two groups. One group was given the amantadine and the other was given a placebo.

Study co-author Joseph Giacino is the director of rehabilitation neuropsychology at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital located in Boston. He is also an associate professor at Harvard Medical School in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation. More

Brian Injury Accident Can Take Away The Simple Things From Our Life

We have a passion for assisting those who seek our help. In Brain Injury cases that Bisnar Chase have represented, it is often the simple things that the hurt the most when we see them. A person that was the talker of the family has now gone silent; unable to express any thought or emotion. Reading a story. Tying a shoe. Scratching an itch. Even just offering a smile…all of that may now be a thing of the past.

The loved one remains; yet remains and memories seem the watchword as the family watches as helplessly as the victim.

One such area that is exceptionally tough to view impaired is the realm of "executive functions." This consists of those capacities that enable a person to engage in independent, purposive, self-serving behavior successfully. They differ from basic cognitive functions in a number of ways.  When executive functions are impaired the individual may no longer be capable of satisfactory basic self-care. Performing remunerative or useful work on his or her own may be lost. Maintaining normal social relationships regardless of how well preserved his or her cognitive capacities may be, may be completely lost. Simple things make a difference, especially when they are gone.
