Jose Asuncion Aguirre, 61, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after he was hit by a Lexus while loading groceries into his truck, the afternoon of September 20, 2011. According to a news report in the Daily Breeze, the fatal car accident occurred at the El Super Market on West Century Boulevard in Inglewood. Police said Aguirre was loading groceries into the back of his Ford Ranger pickup truck, when the driver of a 2000 Lexus struck the Ford and knocked the victim into the path of a 2001 GMC Yukon. The driver of the Lexus fled the scene.
Aguirre suffered major trauma to his upper body and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The driver of the Lexus returned to the scene 30 minutes later. Authorities have not charged the driver as the investigation is ongoing. Officials say the driver hit the gas pedal instead of the brake while parking in a stall in front of where Aguirre was at the time of the collision.

Emeliano Perez, 53, and two Moreno Valley men, aged 23 and 26, were killed in a Riverside car accident involving a wrong-way driver, the night of September 17, 2011. According to a news report in The Press Enterprise, the fatal car accident occurred on an Interstate 215 off-ramp, coming from the 60 Freeway. A California Highway Patrol officer attempted to stop the 2003 Jaguar from entering the off-ramp the wrong way, but was unsuccessful. Officials say the 26-year-old driver of the Jaguar was fleeing the CHP officer, who was trying to stop him for a traffic violation. Soon after, the Jaguar crashed head-on into a 2010 Nissan Frontier pickup. Two occupants in the Jaguar, including its driver, and Perez, who was a passenger in the Nissan, were killed. An investigation is ongoing.

Lucciana Francesca Colotta, 18, of Corona, was killed in a Riverside car accident after the vehicle in which she was passenger went out of control and crashed. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the fatal car accident occurred the night of September 17, 2011 near the intersection of Hidden Valley Parkway and Via Blairo Circle in Norco. Officials say Colotta was a rear seat passenger in a Cadillac CTS driven by 23-year-old Antonelo Colotta. The vehicle went out of control and slid into a Hummer H2 SUV. Lucciana Francesca Colotta died at the scene. The driver suffered major injuries and was hospitalized in critical condition. The occupants of the Hummer were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation is ongoing.

Jesus Ravega, 48, an off-duty LAPD officer, was killed in a motorcycle accident in Los Angeles after he lost control of his cycle, crashed and was run over by a big rig. California Highway Patrol officials say Ravega lost control while passing a big rig truck. The truck ran over the officer's motorcycle and then the officer. Ravega was pronounced dead at a hospital.

A 51-year-old man suffered fatal job injuries in an Alameda accident after he was crushed by a bulldozer. According to a news report in The Contra Costa Times, the construction accident occurred two miles off Vasco Road near Livermore, the afternoon of August 29, 2011. Officials say the bulldozer the worker was operating began to tip and he was ejected. The bulldozer then rolled over the victim. The worker died from his injuries. Cayetano Aguilar Martinez, 45, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident after the vehicle in which she was a passenger went out of control and crashed. California Highway Patrol officials say Martinez was a passenger in a 1996 Toyota Corolla that spun out of control, hit an embankment and overturned. The right side of the vehicle struck a tree. Martinez's head hit against the tree. It is unclear if she was ejected or partially ejected from the vehicle. Another passenger, 43-year-old Juana Martinez, was ejected and suffered major injuries. The driver, 22-year-old Jose Martinez, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The injured victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials are investigating the cause of this fatal car accident.

Stronghold Engineering, a company in Riverside has been slapped with a fine in connection with the death of worker Curtis Martin who sustained fatal injuries on the job. According to a news report in The Press Enterprise, the fatal accident occurred in February. Martin was electrocuted when he was working on the UC Riverside campus. Cal/OSHA, the state agency that monitors work-related accidents, has fined the company $18,000 for failing to ensure that an employee was using suitable personal protective equipment on the job. In this case, Martin was not using protective equipment such as insulated gloves. The company apparently has no prior safety violations and has appealed the fine.
